Vehicles in Germany's Town Discovered Covered with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Law Enforcement State

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Officers reported they were contacted by a man who found a vehicle in Hanau marked with reddish substance

Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a statement.

Law enforcement state they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.

The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.

Police then found numerous other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police say early analysis suggest the fluid was most likely human blood.

"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; investigators are presently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the incident," they stated.

Local authorities announced they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the residents for tips.

A high-ranking official commented the incident left him without words and needed to be addressed promptly.

"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the killing of nine people by a gunman aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
