Slot Insists He Is Secure and Has The Club's Support After PSV Defeat

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's understandable for questions to be asked about his position following a further heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.

The Reds suffered their ninth loss in 12 matches, representing the club's poorest run after being relegated in 1953-54.

They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.

“I feel secure, things are alright, I have got a lot of support from above,” Slot stated.

“It's important to turn it around and get a victory obviously but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”

He continued, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”

Discussions with The Board

Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach revealed:

“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”

He mentioned, “In the normal discussions I feel the trust. However I've not talked to them since this match yet so we'll see.”

Persistent Issues and Player Reaction

Slot lamented familiar shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his view of the current crisis.

“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.

“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”

He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”

“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a spell of this nature with performances like these.”

He stated, “But we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until that badge is taken away, we will always compete.”

“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to the top, prove again the values of this club and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”

“But right now, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
