Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for United

The forward, with six months left on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Munich was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
