Fast bowler Atkinson Exacerbates England's Fitness Concerns.
'Significant concern' for the touring side after Atkinson goes off with a hamstring injury.
The English seamer increased the fitness woes of the England squad upon exiting the ground on the second morning of the fourth Ashes Test against Australia.
Atkinson felt a problem in his left leg immediately following a delivery of the fourth over at the MCG.
The England team stated the 27-year-old reported "discomfort" and was to take time away from the action to undergo evaluation "during the day".
The series decider in this Ashes battle in Sydney gets underway on Sunday, 4 January.
The English side has previously lost fast bowlers one seamer due to knee trouble and another paceman with an abdominal strain during this series.
Matthew Fisher was called up to provide backup.
His form was underwhelming during the first two matches, managing only three wickets.
He was dropped of the third Test, only to be brought back for the fourth Test as Archer's replacement.
The county bowler improved at the MCG, claiming a couple of wickets in Australia's first innings, before adding 28 while batting as one of just three English batsmen who passed ten runs.
Post a single over late on the first day, he returned for the second day's play and dismissed the nightwatchman edging to the keeper.
Unfortunately, on the final ball of the fifth over, he delivered a change of pace to the batsman and promptly felt for his hamstring.
Atkinson was brought back for the Boxing Day Test following his omission of the third.
