Democratic lawmakers Condemn Trump After He Suggests They Should Face Execution

Democratic officials expressed anger after former President Donald Trump accused a group of Democratic representatives of being "traitors" and asserted they should be taken into custody and punished "with execution" following their release of a contentious video.

The Recording That Triggered the Controversy

The clip, released on Tuesday, showcases six Democratic elected officials who formerly served in armed forces or security positions.

"As we did, you all made an vow to safeguard and uphold this constitution," the lawmakers declared in the short video. "At present, the risks to our governing document aren't just from foreign nations, but from right here at home. Our laws are clear, you can decline improper directives, you can decline improper directives, you must refuse improper directives. No one has to carry out commands that break the legal system or our national charter."

Trump's Furious Reply

The recorded statement reportedly provoke a furious reaction from the former president.

On Thursday morning, Trump published on his social media platform: "This represents SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these traitors to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In an additional publication, he stated: "This constitutes really concerning, and Dangerous to our United States. Their statements cannot be enabled to remain. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a third post, he stated: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, subject to punishment by DEATH!" He also reposted a statement that said: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Democratic Officials React

Following Trump's statements on that day, Democratic leadership issued a combined announcement censuring the remarks.

"Violent politics has no position in this nation," they stated. "Congress members who appeared in the video all worked our nation with exceptional loyalty and excellence. We strongly condemn Donald Trump's disgusting and dangerous calls for execution against elected officials, and call on House Republicans to forcefully do the same."

The Democratic leaders also stated that they had been in contact with security officials "to make certain the safety of these members and their loved ones."

"Donald Trump must without delay take down these unhinged digital publications and retract his violent discourse before he leads to violence," the declaration stated.

Lawmakers' Strong Reaction

The officials who were featured in the video also released a response.

"We identify as ex-military personnel and security experts who care for this country and made an vow to protect and defend the constitution of the United States," they declared. "This commitment is permanent, and we plan to honor it. No threat, coercion, or call for violence will deter us from that sacred obligation."

"The significant point is that the ex-president deems it subject to penalty by death for us to restate the legal requirements," they stated. "Military personnel should recognize that we have their protection as they carry out their oath to the founding principles and obligation to follow only lawful orders. It is not only the proper thing to do, but also our responsibility."

They stated: "All citizens must join forces and denounce the former president's calls for our death and political violence. This is a period for moral clarity."

More Governmental Responses

The Democratic Senate minority leader also censured Trump's statements and shared on digital platforms: "Let's be crystal clear: the former president is demanding the capital punishment of elected officials."

He stated: "This constitutes an clear THREAT. Every Senator, all representatives, the entire nation – regardless of party – should denounce this immediately and without qualification."

The Republican House speaker justified Trump's allegation that the Democrats had engaged in "rebellion", describing the video as "highly unsuitable", commenting: "This constitutes very harmful, you have important representatives of the legislature telling troops to ignore directives, I think that represents unprecedented in US history."

The Conservative representative also according to sources informed the press that in what he examined of Trump's messages, Trump was "explaining the crime of rebellion" but that "attorneys have to parse the terminology and decide all that."

Administration Response

During a administration briefing on Thursday afternoon, when questioned by a journalist, "Does the president want to execute members of Congress?", the White House press secretary answered: "Absolutely not."

"We should understand about what the former president is addressing," the official stated. "There are sitting members of the American legislature who coordinated to organize a digital communication to personnel of the American armed forces, to current military personnel advising them to ignore the executive's legal commands."

She said: "The integrity of our armed forces depends on the chain of command, and if that chain of command is broken, it can lead to people getting killed, it can lead to chaos, and that is exactly what these congressional representatives ... are basically supporting."
