Canada's Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Matchup With the Dodgers

Springer contributed to the Astros securing the championship in 2017.

Toronto's Blue Jays earned a spot in their maiden World Series after the 1993 season by defeating the Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the AL Championship Series.

Behind by two runs, the star outfielder smashed a three-run homer in the seventh, guiding the sole Canadian team in MLB to a four games to three win in the seven-game series. Awaiting them are the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are the reigning title, in the forthcoming World Series.

"I'm thrilled for this squad, our city, Canada," Springer stated, a key player of the Astros team that won the 2017 title. "What an unbelievable moment."

The veteran has now hit 23 post-season home runs, placing him third on the list trailing only Manny Ramirez (29) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"I can't think of another person anywhere that I want up in that situation besides him with his playoff prowess," said manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, after leading the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the one club never to appear in a Fall Classic.

Manager Dan Wilson said "without a doubt that it's painful" after his team's loss at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but commended their efforts in the campaign.

"They're an exceptional squad. Sadly that we had to come out on the wrong side of this one," he added.

The Blue Jays claimed the World Series on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Los Angeles in the opener on Friday.
