Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Sparks Heated Discussions Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, the game developers introduced a new game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several notable changes:
- Every squad has just eight human participants, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
- Activities performed by real players grant complete experience points, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
- Just a pair of locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Elements like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.
In short, this mode lives up to its name: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, since it gives additional choices for gamers looking for alternative ways to enjoy the title. But, if video games have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, many Battlefield 6 fans are mad.
Community Responses: Anger to Support
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," comments another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," while someone else lists everything they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this game all the time. Let them strike a balance," states another. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," while another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Concerns and Player Input
Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it will make wait times more extended for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists currently available. On a similar note, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was promised to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to remove bot farms from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the community compromising halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?
Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and responding to player input. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics shows this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
