2K Brings Onboard Apex Legends Developer to Rescue Troubled Action Game Project Ethos

The renowned publisher has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the anticipated over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.

Leadership Transition Follows Mixed Feedback

Brinkman steps into the leadership position at 31st Union following the dismissal of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' underwhelming unveiling last fall.

On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure informed employees about this decision through an internal memo, which highlighted that playtesting had indicated the necessity for a clearer direction.

The president noted that the developers is now overhauling Project Ethos with a renewed approach, aiming to better meet player expectations.

A Pattern of Strategic Hires

The news mirrors a similar action taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired an industry veteran from the Diablo team to assist with the BioShock development group.

Here is the full text from the president's memo:

Dear Team—

I understand you all just completed your meeting - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the positive developments. Previously I sent you all a update, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and creative developers we have had the opportunity to collaborate with - and we’re looking forward for that partnership to continue.”

Given your hard work and flexibility, particularly over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.

The gamer responses from last autumn’s the game demo was enlightening. It affirmed the promise of a action-packed game but indicated we still had improvements to make. It revealed the need for a more distinct vision.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You took the criticism to consideration and revamped the title with a revitalized goal - one that’s poised to fulfill its potential to our players.

The belief in this project grows every day. To further the remarkable advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce the new hire as the latest Director of the team. Following several months of discussions, he comes aboard us on next week.

His leadership and expertise in the competitive gaming genre is extensive, having spent the past decade and a half producing and overseeing some of the most popular titles in gaming, such as the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, Apex Legends.

I invite you all in receiving him in the coming days. We are all eager to persist witnessing the development of Project ETHOS in the time to follow.

David
